Holiday Tip #6: Traditions
I created the Holiday Tips series for ambitious high achieving women trying to juggle everything this holiday season -- closing out the fiscal year at work, coordinating holiday events, hosting, cooking, cleaning, communicating, shopping, wrapping. The mental load is extra heavy this time of year, and I'm hopeful these holiday tips will help make things a little lighter for you.

Hey everyone. Coach Leanna, the Executive Coach for Moms here to share another holiday tip with you. One thing that I think is really important to think about is traditions and what is our definition of traditions, what's our relationship with traditions? I am someone personally who growing up, I always, always loved the traditions, and anytime my parents would suggest that we didn't do a tradition, I would very vehemently object. And one thing that I have realized as a mom is that sometimes whenever we try something out, we think, oh, we've done it once or we've done it twice, or we've done it five times now. So therefore it's a tradition that has to last in perpetuity.
And if I don't do it, then it's like breaking all the magic of the holidays. And so I think it's important to check in about traditions, because what tends to happen is we do this like tradition stacking where we really don't ever cut out traditions, we just keep adding [00:01:00] and adding and adding more and more.
And so if that's you, if you have a whole laundry list of traditions that you've started and wish you never had but at the same time you love them, then it's probably time to do a traditions audit with your family and take a look and see, like how many do we really think that we need and which ones are most important to people, and which ones can we maybe let go of?
And if we wanna start new ones, then let's not add a new one. Let's make sure that when we add it, we also remove one of them. Alright, follow me at @execcoachleanna for more holiday tips.
